Cardiff International Poetry CompetitionOnly a few more days!Closing date 29 January 2010 Open to all poets writing in English Top prize £5,000 Judging the competition are poets Jackie Kay, Zoë Skoulding and filter judge Tiffany Atkinson. Eligibility: poems of are 50 lines or less, unpublished, in English and not a translation of another author’s work. Ian McMillan, who was last year's chair, had this invaluable advice for would-be entrants: ‘I often enter competitions, and I pretend that I’ve been commissioned to write a new poem for a magazine that the judge is the editor of. I try to remember that a competition-winning poem has to stand on its own two (metrical) feet; has to amaze and delight the jaded judge on first reading and then impress the jaded judge on a second and third and fourth reading in the cold light of day.’ It's probably too later to receive an entry form through the post, so Visit this page for further details and to download the entry form.
